Assignment #4 S.Nelson
The article States and Cities Scramble for Stimulus Cash was published on February 16, 2009 in the New York Times. The author was Monica Davey. In this article Monica talks about the projects that will come from the stimulus package as well as the jobs that will be created. Although everyone wants the money it is already becoming a problem for states trying to figure out how the money will be delegated. The problem is how much money will each state get and then how much will the states give to the local governments. It all depends on what budgets the states have and what resources they have. With $787 billion dollars there shouldn't be a problem. I am not sure that this stimulus is going to get us out of the whole that we are in. Maybe another package in the future will get us on our feet. It seems to me that the roads and bridges might be able to wait. I think we should worry about putting food on the table and getting health care to those who desperately need it. I understand the construction will make jobs but what will happen when these projects are completed? Any help is great but I hope that our state and local leaders can really see what the people need.
