Assignment #3

The article entitled: Trade-Offs in the Stimulus Package first appeared in CQ Politics on February 4, 2009. The item was written by Madison Powers. The item was written to inform and warn Americans about the economic stimulus package proposed by the Obama Administration. Unfortunately, for too long Americans have been of the mind-set that "bigger is better." We demand the most for our dollar and we will not compromise. And there are those in Washington who insist on squeezing every single item of immediate importance or not into the package. It seems everyone has their arm out and tin cup in hand saying..gimme gimme more.
The stimulus package is also being dangled like a pork chop under the noses of those suffering because of the weakend economy. Night after night, senator after senator stand in front of the
cameras and congradulate one another for the wonderful job they have done for the American people...Oh the sacrifices they have made for us. Not only have we saved Wall Street but we threw something in for you all too...like extended unemployment benefits and dont worry about finding a job, we made it easier to get food stamps. Under the Bush Administration we pumped billions into the banking system at tax payers expense to supposedly free up credit and lending but this has not worked on any level. I honestly hope the proposed stimulus package gives the economy a much needed boost, but I also honestly believe the men and women surrounded by the Washington bubble have lost touch with the hardships faced by so many Americans.
