Assignment # 4 A. Huddleston

The Stimulus Package has been an issue of hot debate. Ever since President Obama passed a little over a week ago it has been a buzz in the media. On February 15, 2009 in the New York Times there was another article about the Stimulus Package. Monica Davey wrote the article "States and Cities Angle for Stimulus Cash." This article is about the Stimulus Package and how state, cities, and towns are running to get the money.
It is like kids in a candy store when states, towns, and cities, look at the money they might be getting. Missouri has not even had the money in hand, and are already wanting to spend 510 million dollars of the money. They have 34 transportation projects planned, but on the other hand it is going to give 14,000 jobs to people who need it. A lot of stats are needing this money and already have plans for the money. It is almost all the states have went and sat on Santa's lap and have told him what they want or have wished for.
The author has also made it known that there is a great debate on how the money is being handed down to the states. Some fights have almost broken out between different mayors. This would be due to how the money might be divided out in that state. While most states are racing to the money; some states are lying back. South Carolina is one of those states; the governor feels that this Stimulus is dirty money. That this Stimulus is somewhat of a quick fix but will end up just prolonging the problems.
The audience the author is trying to project to would be the cities and towns that the Stimulus is going to reach. She is just trying to tell them that help is on the way. It just might take a while due to fighting over the money and how it might be divided up. I hope this package does help our country and the situation that it is in. We definitely need to be pulled out before we go back into a Great Depression. Lastly, the states need to invest this money wisely and just not let it go to waste.
