Assignment # 1 M Gardner

In the New York Times on January 21, 2009 the article “Radical in the White House” was published. This article was only published one day after the inauguration of Americas first African-American President. The author of the article is Thomas L. Friedman. Thomas Friedman is known for certain things like being in charge of the Foreign-affairs for the New York Times. At one point Friedman was the chief White House correspondent. Therefore, Friedman is not new to America and knows its background very well.

This article was not just about the inauguration of Barack Obama the first African-American President. Obama became President in a crucial time in America. Friedman writes about how past Presidents and their mistakes or downfalls. Friedman made sure not talk down on the mistakes or downfalls of other Presidents. Friedman expresses his feelings about having our first African-American President. In the article the feelings are expressed about how American is in a crucial time and if Obama can keep his goals and turn America around.

In the article the author is gearing toward America youth right now. With all the “changes” that needs to be made to help pull America out of this crucial time those changes will have the biggest impact on the youth. All though some older Americans will be affected, it’s more of the future of the youth. Change needs to be made so the youth will be able to make it in their lives. The article is also geared to anyone about how changes need to be done for America. This is a rough time in America and many people haven’t see America like this in many years.

Overall, like the author expressed his feelings about hoping Obama can handle and secure all the problems in America that needs to be changed. It’s a hard position to be in at time like this. I hope just like all other Americans is that Osama can not only make history for becoming the first African-American but make history for changing America when it is in such a crucial time.

Assignment # 1 A. Huddleston

The article “Radical in the White House” was published into the New York Times on January 20, 2009. Thomas Friedman was the author who wrote this article. Thomas Friedman described a very realistic scene after the presidential inauguration.
The whole country was a roar at the sight of President Obama becoming our commander and chief. Many Americans have been waiting for this day. The day America showed that its racial issues aside, and worked together to put America's priorities first. This past election showed how far America has come; that we can elect someone we believe in rather than the Good Ole' Boy System!
This article also described how hard some of our nation's finest political figures to prepare us for this moment. Mr. Friedman did a great job of not bashing our former President. He described President Bush's downfalls, and has put all his beliefs in President Obama's slogans of hope and change. As every American we are hoping and praying Mr. Obama can turn our nation around from the mess that we are currently in.
The mood of this article was geared to America as a whole. Not only for America but it was geared toward more of our nation's youth. America's youth is really the next generation. Anything that Obama does not only effects America, but it effects our youth and their future. Mr. Friedman was saying that it is up to the President to help our youth, and the future of the Untied States that they are going to live in. Just as Obama; Mr. Friedman is hoping and wanting a change in our nation. All of America is wanting hope and change.
President Obama has now made American History. He will be forever known, and will be talked about as long as humans exist. Lets just hope the conversations that are being held will also be known in history for good. Just hope us as Americans just did not vote for him to make history, but to save us from going down an even more narrow path. The country's thoughts and wishes are with President Obama!

Radical in the White House

I enjoyed reading this article entitled "Radical in the White House" it was executed well. I agree completely with the views of the author, Thomas L. Friedman. Desperate times calls for desperate measures. Everyone is rejoicing over the fact that we have begun to come together as a country and look past our racial differences. That is a great thing, however, I believe there are much greater issues at stake. We overcame one major struggle but there are many more ahead. President Obama has been selected to take on a very difficult task, we are officially in economic turmoil. Americans as a whole have put their trust in Obama and his campaign of "change". Hopefully, this to will come to pass.

The audience this article is catering to is every red-blooded American that is ready to see "change that we can believe in" take place.
The basic argument the author is making is that Obama is the radical man that is called upon in radical times that calls for radical measures.
In response to this article I wish President Obama the best and my hopes are with him that we as a country can overcome these depressionary times.

assignment one

In this article by Thomas Friedman, he speaks about how he is joyful our nation has elected a black man as president in which he has a lot of trust and respect for. Friedman is happy that American citizens were able to overcome the whole idea of our president being black, and do what was best for our nation. We need change and Barack Obama has promised to deliver. This gives hope to many people, people who have dreams that don't seem like they can be accomplished. Now that America has a black president, many people think now anything is possible. It brings hope to people, especially African Americans. Hopefully Obama will be able to bring everybody together as a whole and fix what our nation is going through, with our economy struggling so greatly. Obama has a lot of pressure on him as of right now, and only time will tell if he was the best elect for the president of the United States.

Assignment #1

The article entitled: Radical in the White House was written by Thomas L. Friedman and first appeared in The New York Times. In the article, Friedman expresses his concerns about the direction the country was headed while led by the Bush Administration, a administration that has done more harm to the reputation of America than any other.
America is long past due a African American President and Friedman like myself believes Barack
Obama to be the person who can bring about that much needed change, not only domestically but also when foreign affairs come into play.
Friedman is expressing his concern to all those who feel bitter and betrayed by the last eight years and too many minorities beyond that. Of course im sure the author realizes, while President Obama may be a great politician, only time will reveal how great a president he will
truly turn out to be. Let us all hope he doesnt fall prey to the corruption Washington has grown
accustomed too.

The article was written to inform America on what is at stake. It told of the history that was made with a black president, and how more then ever it is time for a radical type of change. There is so many things that need to be done. It is simply amazing on how much potential Barack Obama has, but we as a nation can only hope for the best and pray he and our government make the best decisions.
